Miniature Border Collies Information

"Are you a breeder of Miniature Border Collies" ? I was asked by a woman on the other end of the phone. I quickly tried to get her to understand there really isn't a creature. I explained there are small sized border collies, but no such breed called the Miniature Border Collie.

I thought to myself... how did this start? So I began a search for the answer. What I found was a website called GOT PETS ONLINE. They listed Miniature Border Collies on their site with a picture of a regular collie for the example of them. A Standard Collie!!! I laughed when I saw this. How could they be so misinformed? They even stated, to purchase a Miniature Border Collie from a reputable breeder! That they were found in rescues too! I'm thinking well, yes, in rescues those border collies are crossed with another breed most of the time.

The truth is Border Collies can be as small as 20 lbs. on the extreme side... I do mean extreme. But I've also heard the Border Collie can be as large as 75 lbs.. So the range is vast for a medium sized Border Collie. But normal size for the average Border Collie is 30 to 50 lbs.. There are some breeders that have the genetics for the smaller sized Border Collies, but they aren't the so called Miniature Border Collie. Sometimes a very small size adult Border Collie is caused by being stunted as a pup. This can be caused from illness, parasites or both. Of course, there will be some breeders that will capitalize on trusting, unlearned pet buyers looking for this new small breed and sell them as a Miniature Border Collie. Beware of these unscrupulous people.

Please consider another breed if a Miniature Border Collie appeals to you. Border Collies are wonderful companions for a active person or family, but they do need daily activity, both mental and physical and a special type of person that understands the needs of the Border Collie.

My hope is this information has helped to shed light on the subject of the so called Miniature Border Collie. If anyone has proof and breeds the Miniature Border Collie, then I would like to hear about their findings just so I can be correct in my knowledge.
