We're Bill & Kim
Hastings and
we're now
retired from the
rodeo production
business. Lots
of hard work,
but we survived
the many years
of it some how.
Bill used border
collies since
1971 for herding
livestock. And
the love for the
border collie
breed began as a
result.
Our
three sons, Ian,
Aaron & Jedidiah
are all grown up
and are cutting
out their path
in life now, so
we're empty
nesters. We're
keeping company
with our 'fur
kids' now...owned by our
adopted border collie
family,
three Rhodesian
Ridgebacks, one
cur, our
two Siamese
color point
house cats, plus
some bucking
horses. We were
forced to sell
our herd of
sheep as they
were convinced
they should play on the highway
and there was no
changing their
minds! Baa Ram
Ewe!!
The breeding of
border collies
started to keep
Bill in working
dogs. And well I
guess we just
got carried
away! We've come
a long way and
changed things
up here and
there to improve
our breeding
program. We use
to raise border
collies just for
working
livestock, but
have since
adapted to other
venues such as
agility, flyball,
frisbee and
more! When we
acquired our
first show bred
AKC registered
border collie
through an
unusual
situation, and
truthfully we
didn't think it
would work out.
But to our
amazement we
soon realized a
show bred border
collie can work
too!!! So, we
eventually began
crossing him
with the working
bred girls we
owned and have
been
very pleased
with the
results. We've
continued with
this breeding
program for the
last 6 years.
We're loaded
with much
information
gathered about
the border
collie breed
from border
collie
ownership, doing
border collie
rescue and from
intensive
research.
We love to share
with those that
wish to learn
more about the
smartest dog
breed, the
BORDER COLLIE!
While everyone
starts at the
beginning when
breeding and
pays their dues
and makes
numerous
mistakes, you
must learn from
those mistakes.
We believe if
you put that
valuable
information to
use, you'll want
to improve and
try hard not to
keep making the
same mistakes.
When we learned
the hard way
about the health
issues in the
border collie
breed, we were
devastated!
We dealt with
epilepsy which
there's
currently no
test for, so we
avoid the lines
we know have
issues with it.
Then we learned
the hard way
about Hip
Dysplasia,
so the hip
testing began,
then we started
CERF testing the
eyes and moved
on to the DNA
testing for the
CEA, CH, CL and
the TNS too!
It's
vitally
important to do
health testing
if you breed! We
don't want to
intentionally
sell a sick
border collie to
a family then
have them deal
with watching
their beloved
animal suffer. But we also know
there isn't any
100% guarantee
when breeding
animals no
matter how many
tests are
available. As a
breeder you do
the best you
can. We tell
people to stay
away from
breeders that
don't do any
testing as
they're really
taking a chance
having no
information
about their
breeding stock.
Most of those
kind of breeders
offer the
classic response
of, " We haven't
had any problems
in our dogs or
puppies ". When
the truth is, they don't know
if they've had
any problems
since they don't
do the testing!
You can't tell
by just looking
at the dog! It
must be tested!
We encourage
newcomers to
breeding to ask
questions and do
lots of research
!!!
We offer a
guarantee on our
border collie
pups in writing
until the pups
first birthday! We
also require a
puppy agreement so
there won't be
any
misunderstandings
and all parties
know what is
expected.
Of course,
please consider
a rescue if a
purebred isn't
the answer for
you.
We're proud to
offer border
collies with
ability and
soundness all
wrapped up in a
beautiful
package. We'll
continue to
research the
breed and stay
updated.
Well, that's all
for now and
thanks for
reading this...
